On Saturday 18 May members of The 1879 Group were at Brecon for the 2018 Rorkes Drift Rally.
This is a charity fund-raising event, with the proceeds given to a number of charities.
Prior to staging our display we were at the Museum in Brecon town centre where we had displays and interacted with members of the public.
We were joined at the display by a colleague from The Bluejackets group who portrayed a member of the crew of HMS Active.
The static exhibition consisted of a display of small arms, bayonets and various items of kit. We performed in the arena, giving displays of bayonet drill, rifle drill and a firing display.
Following our arena display the Swansea Pipe Band performed several numbers. This was followed by a ceremony, blessing of the recent marriage of two of the attendees. This was performed by the Bishop of Brecon, and had a zulu theme. The 1879 Group formed a Guard of Honour as the couple entered the Marquee to the pipes and drums of The Swansea Pipe Band.
